School History

Jenard M. Gross Elementary School opened its doors in fall of 2001 when Houston ISD transformed the former I. Weiner Jewish Secondary School campus — originally established in 1978 — into a public elementary school. The school was named in honor of Jenard M. Gross, a respected real estate developer and philanthropist known for his deep commitment to urban education. His legacy is honored through this naming, recognizing his many contributions to educational access and community development.

Since its founding, Gross Elementary has grown into a vibrant Pre-K through 5th grade campus in southwest Houston, serving the Brays Oaks community. With a mission to nurture college-bound 21st-century learners, the school emphasizes academic excellence, equity, and student engagement through programs like Gifted & Talented education, literacy events, and community activities.

Driven by its motto — “Boots on the ground: Every Step, Towards Excellence"— Jenard M. Gross Elementary continues to support and uplift every student, every step of the way.
